The theme that I am continuously seeing and reading are the various dichotomies, taking place within schools, and school boards. Collinson (2014) acknowledged the tendency in leadership to dichotomize power and influence with power and resistance. Far too often we see Authoritarian or transactional leadership wearing Transformational skin.
How does one fix this?
Meindl’s work (Collinson 2014) on the post-heroic perspective, focuses on the shared and collaborative nature of leadership, and on the importance of followers for ‘‘successful’’ organizations recommends that ‘‘courageous’’ followers need to voice constructive criticism particularly where they believe that leaders are not acting in the best interests of the organization (Collinson, p.40).
